Sami Timiml will be answering your questions in our live online Q&A, Thursday 8 September 2016, 12.30pm (GMT).
Sami Timimi is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Director of Medical Education in the National Health Service in Lincolnshire, and a Visiting Professor of Child Psychiatry and Mental Health Improvement at the University of Lincoln, UK. He writes from a critical psychiatry perspective on topics relating to mental health and childhood and has published over a hundred articles and tens of chapters on many subjects including childhood, psychotherapy, behavioural disorders and cross-cultural psychiatry.
Sami has authored four books including Naughty Boys: Anti-Social Behaviour, ADHD and the Role of Culture, and co-edited and co-authored many others.
He is co-founder of the Outcome Orientated Approach to Mental Health Service (OO-AMHS).
Sami will be speaking at our upcoming conference Beyond Autism: What does an autism diagnosis mean?, taking place on Wednesday 19 October 2016. His talk will examine the evidence base that supports (or otherwise) the scientific validity and clinical utility of a diagnosis of autism and its spectrum. Sami argues that the autism label has developed as a result of ideological changes rather scientific discoveries, and calls for an urgent debate on whether the continuing use of the label is desirable.
