About this conference

We are increasingly forced to look at the autism diagnosis and ask what it means to the person and their family. Is it a gateway to support and services, or a label that means different things to different people with constantly shifting criteria presentation, with potential for harm as well as good? Professor Chris Gillberg suggests that it is more accurate to talk of the ‘autisms’ - encompassing all types of neurodevelopment, and our late patron Dr Lorna Wing favoured a more flexible criteria for diagnosis. Is it time for our thinking about autism to be revisited?

This conference sets out to explore the boundaries of autism, and the concept of autism within the broader context of neurodiversity. You will hear from expert researchers, leading practitioners, and exceptional autistic speakers. There will be opportunities for debate, and to put your question forward.

This conference will be of interest to anyone who has an interest in autism whether in a professional or personal capacity.
