Dextroamphetamine and Autism

Dextroamphetamine is a form of amphetamine, a type of stimulant medication, and is sold under a variety of brand names such as Dexedrine and ProCentra.

Stimulant medications affect the action of certain chemicals in the brain, allowing us to control how we pay attention and organise our behaviour.

These are used to treat conditions such as ADHD, hyperkinetic disorder and narcolepsy.

Some people believe that stimulants can be used with some autistic individuals to reduce problem behaviours, such as hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention.
