Levoamphetamine and Autism

Dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine are two forms of amphetamine, which are used alone or together as stimulant medications sold under a variety of brand names such as Adderall and Dexedrine.

Stimulant medications affect the action of certain chemicals in the brain, allowing us to control how we pay attention and organise our behaviour.

These are used to treat conditions such as ADHD, hyperkinetic disorder and narcolepsy.

Some people believe that stimulants can be used with some people on the autism spectrum to reduce problem behaviours, such as hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention.
