Assistance Dogs and Autism Ranking: Insufficient/Mixed evidence

History

Guide dogs for the blind were first used in Germany to help soldiers blinded during the First World War.  The use of guide dogs to help visually impaired people then spread to other countries such as the UK and the USA.

In the 1970's people in the USA and other countries began to use assistance dogs to help people with physical disabilities and mental health problems,

Various providers in the UK (such as Dogs for the Disabled and Support Dogs) began to use assistance dogs to help people on the autism spectrum during the 2000's.
