Helping people affected by autism

Jane Asher, Patron of Research Autism

‘Autism is not rare: today in the UK there are over 500,000 individuals with some form of autism spectrum disorder

‘Despite the large numbers, very little is known about the best ways of helping them. Little research is devoted to interventions .

‘We need to encourage new scientific approaches and to learn much more about the effects of the various interventions and about those most likely to be effective with a particular individual.

‘Without good information parents may be vulnerable and seduced by claims for the effectiveness of particular methods, which turn out to be misleading or exaggerated. As time is of the essence, they need to have confidence that the methods used are based on sound scientific principles.

‘We need to raise significant funds to develop a better understanding of interventions in this potentially devastating condition.

‘You can help by making a donation to help us continue our vital work.
