Bath Half Marathon

Bath Half Marathon logo

On Sunday 11 March 2012 seven runners completed the Bath Half Marathon, raising valuable funds for Research Autism.

A huge thank you to Mark Allen, Karen and John Broderick, Tristan Gray, Nathan Goddard, David Lawrence and Diana Russell who ran the Bath Half for Research Autism on 13th March, and between them have raised almost £4,000 so far.

The Bath Half Marathon – or the ‘Bath Half’ as it is affectionately known, is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK. It is also the largest charity fundraising event in the South West region, raising over £1.4 million for charity last year alone.

The course itself is fast and flat making it suitable for all abilities – for beginners whose key objective is to complete the course, to more regular long-distance event runners, looking to beat their personal best time. It covers a two lap 13.1 mile (21.1km) traffic-free course straddling both sides of the River Avon. The race starts and finishes in Great Pulteney Street, in the heart of the World Heritage City of Bath

Diana Russell

Diana Russell Diana Russell tells us how she got on. ‘Just wanted to let you know that Sunday was brilliant! It was a little bit hot for running that far but I managed to knock 15 minutes off the time I’d done in November and finished in 02:01:05. Very pleased with that! My husband, parents and a few friends were dotted around the course to cheer me on which was great. It was such a fantastic occasion in such a beautiful city and of course I knew I was raising money for a fantastic cause. My sponsorship page (Open in new window) is open for a few more weeks but to date I have raised £1,466 (£1,790 with gift aid). I saw a couple of other people with Research Autism vests on and had a chat with one on the start line!’

Why Research Autism?

Running a half marathon is a wonderful achievement in itself. But why not harness your determination – and increase your motivation in training and to get across the finish line – by supporting a deserving cause that urgently needs your help?

Sheaian Lee, who recently ran the Bristol Half Marathon for us, says: “There were times during my training when my motivation started to crumble. But remembering that the money I would raise would help to improve the quality of life of people with autism really kept me going.”

We are the only charity focused exclusively on building a solid research base to document interventions (treatments or therapies) for autism rather than its causes. We aim to be the trusted source that those affected so desperately need for information on effective and scientifically researched treatments.

We have the active support of many of the world’s leading figures in autism but we need your help too.
