Edinburgh Marathon

The Edinburgh Marathon is the backbone of Research Autism’s fundraising: both individual marathon runners and teams of four relay runners have given their time, energy and fundraising skills to enable us to commission and support crucial breakthrough research into autism treatments.

Why Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is a beautiful city and a great place to visit.

Runners will get a chance to soak up the atmosphere of the historic old town before heading out of the city into the beautiful countryside and coastlines of East Lothian.

Runners at the Edinburgh Marathon With spectacular views and landmarks steeped in Scottish history, there will be plenty to keep runners distracted from the gruelling challenge. The course will eventually sweep round to bring runners back to finish at Musselburgh Racecourse.

This world famous venue will provide a superb background to the end of the race and offers all amenities a weary but exultant runner could possibly want.
And at Edinburgh you can choose either to take on the full 26.2 miles as an individual runner – an outstanding personal achievement – or to run as part of a four person relay team – a wonderful team event.

Why Research Autism?

Running a marathon as an individual or as part of a team is a wonderful achievement in itself. But why not harness your determination – and increase your motivation in training and to get across the finish line – by supporting a deserving cause that urgently needs your help?

Sheaian Lee, who recently ran the Bristol Half Marathon for us, says: “There were timesduring my training when my motivation started to crumble. But remembering that the money I would raise would help to improve the quality of life of people with autism really kept me going.”

We are the only charity focused exclusively on building a solid research base to document interventions (treatments or therapies) for autism rather than its causes. We aim to be the trusted source that those affected so desperately need for information on effective and scientifically researched treatments.

We have the active support of many of the world’s leading figures in autism, but we need your help too.
