Edinburgh Marathon 2009: Sunday 31st May

Edinburgh Marathon 2009

We would like to say a big thank you to all the runners who ran the Edinburgh Marathon in May 2009 and helped us to raise the money we need to keep Research Autism going.

For years, the Edinburgh Marathon has been the backbone of Research Autism’s fundraising: both individual marathon runners and teams of four relay runners have given their time, energy and fundraising skills to enable us to commission and support crucial breakthrough research into autism treatments.

Why Edinburgh?

Edinburgh is a beautiful city and a great place to visit.

The course route included a spectacular start on Princes’ Street in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. Runners got a chance to soak up the atmosphere of the historic old town before heading out of the city into the beautiful countryside and coastlines of East Lothian.

With spectacular views and landmarks steeped in Scottish history, there was plenty to keep runners distracted from the gruelling challenge. The course swept round to bring runners back to finish at Musselburgh Racecourse. This world famous venue provided a superb background to the end of the race and offered all amenities a weary but exultant runner could possibly want.

And at Edinburgh you could choose either to take on the full 26.2 miles as an individual runner – an outstanding personal achievement – or to run as part of a four person relay team – a wonderful team event. Companies have confirmed how useful this particular challenge is for corporate team-building.

Why Research Autism?

Running a marathon as an individual or as part of a team is a wonderful achievement in itself. But why not harness your determination – and increase your motivation in training and to get across the finish line – by supporting a deserving cause that urgently needs your help?

We are the only charity focused exclusively on building a solid research base to document interventions (treatments or therapies) for autism rather than its causes. We aim to be the trusted voice that those affected so desperately need for guidance on effective and scientifically researched treatments.

We have the active support of many of the world’s leading figures in autism, but we need your help too.
