Research Priorities
Research Autism priorities
Trustees have agreed that research supported by the charity shall meet the following overall criteria:
- It shall be in scientifically critical areas
- It shall make a significant and fundamental difference
- It shall have potentially significant outputs
- It shall have generic application
Trustees have agreed on three broad priority areas reflecting the outcomes of the 2005 survey of National Autistic Society (NAS) members by Richard Mills and Lorna Wing and the views of the advisors and trustees of Research Autism.

- PACT project (University of Manchester)
Social skills based intervention
- Work preparation project (Manchester Business School, University of Manchester).
- Drama project (Institute of Education, NAS, Heathermount School and a LEA school)
Priority research area 2
Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Mental Health
- The prevalence and nature of mental illness in ASD populations
- The prevalence of ASD among adolescents and adults referred to Mental Health Services
- The treatment implications and other issues related to the care of individuals with co morbid ASD & mental health problems.

- Reduction of challenging behaviour
