Guidance notes on the approval procedure for research projects

Research Autism will fund or support proposals that fall within its stated aims and objectives, i.e. Autism intervention research.

The Trustees have agreed a list of priority project areas, which are updated as required. However, proposals involving novel or groundbreaking projects or which respond to urgent areas of investigation (e.g. claims for dramatic new treatments) will also be welcome.

1. Preliminary enquiry (Step 1)

Proposal should be submitted by email to the Honorary Secretary. A brief outline (250 words or less) should be provided.

2. Does proposal meet RA Criteria and priorities? (Steps 2-3)

The Hon Sec will decide with the Chairman and or Chairs of Scientific and Advisory Committee (SAC) whether the project meets RA criteria (2) and current priorities (3) Enquiries will be acknowledged within 28 days of receipt.

3. Proposer submits outline proposal to Hon Sec (steps 4-6)

Applicants whose projects appear to meet RA criteria and priorities will be requested to submit a formal outline proposal (4). The applicant may be seeking funds or other forms of support (e.g. reference, endorsement, participation etc). Submission of outline proposal should be made on the appropriate form as provided by the Honorary Secretary (5). The Honorary Secretary and Chairs of the Scientific and Advisory Committee will consider the proposal?s submission to the SAC (6)

7. Consideration by Scientific and Advisory Committee (step 7)

The Honorary Secretary will submit the outline proposal to the SAC for consideration. The SAC will consider and make recommendation to the Board of Trustees.

8. Consideration by Board of Trustees (step 8)

The Trustees may:

The applicant will be advised of the Trustees decision by the Hon Sec within 28 days.

Appeals

The decision of the Trustees is final, although representation may be made to the Honorary Secretary within 28 days, if an applicant wishes to raise any matter of concern or clarification.
