Additional Information
Access is an interactive online employment website which ensures that all parties – whether they are employers and their colleagues, or jobseekers and employees with autism – have ready access to all the resources they need to make the employment of those with autism as easy and successful as possible.
The objectives of the project are:
- To raise funds to cover development of the site, its on-going maintenance and support, and the resources required to set it up and run it in the future
- To design, build and maintain an Autism Employment Online Information Centre that materially improves the quality of information available to employers and to potential employees on the autism spectrum
- To provide, through the content available on this site, advice, guidance, resources and signposting on all issues concerning the recruitment and employment of people with autism, specifically:
- information for employers on best practice in the employment of people with autism so that they use this information to the benefit of their company and the autism community
- information for people with autism, their family and carers, on how to obtain and stay in paid employment
- To ensure that the site:
- Becomes the industry-standard portal for recruitment and employment advice and information
- Is customer orientated, and meets high standards of accessibility and clarity
- Meets the needs of a range of audiences including those with autism (whether high or low functioning), their families and carers, employers, potential employers and others
- Links individuals with autism to the network of services, support and referrals they need in the process of identifying, and applying for, jobs; and that can help provide them with key training prior to the search for employment
- To establish ways in which to measure the impact of the site on a regular basis, assessing its ability to provide practical help to individuals and employers.
We believe that the website will provide a range of benefits to its visitors, including:
- Practical information and guidance for employers on the employment of people with autism spectrum disorders e.g. relevant legislation
- The opportunity to understand the perspective of other parties in the employment process e.g. employers gaining a better understanding of some of the practical problems facing employees with autism
- The opportunity to share best practice e.g. how to tell an employee s/he needs to improve personal hygiene
- Practical information and guidance for jobseekers with autism on how to apply and interview for a job, and on support available for employees with autism once they have started a role
